Photo of the day: Sumner Estuary

Sumner estuary

Sumner, Christchurch, New Zealand.

I have never seen it so calm and reflective! It was stunning.

Spring blossom

Spring blossom

The first of many blossoms I have photographed this Spring.

I took this a month ago in Christchurch while on a walk in the neighbourhood hills.

I love the freshness of new blossoms and all that they signify!!

Have a lovely day πŸ™‚

Winter Garden 2: Corpse Flower

Corpse flower

The Corpse FlowerΒ (amorphophallus titanum), which flowered earlier this year in the Auckland Domain Winter Garden.

These are the biggest flowers in the world, and the flower scent is said to be that of a corpse, which attracts pollinating insects to it.

Unfortunately, I could only visit it after it had faded a bit, however it remained very impressive!

A few recent photos

I’ve been having a lot of fun with my friend’s Canon EOS 1000D camera, which isn’t doing too badly considering it’s over five years old.

It certainly doesn’t produce the sharpest image there is, but, as I’ve said before (and I will say again), the camera does not make the photographer.

It is so fun to finally be able to play around with lenses and focus points and general DSLR tricks which have until now been pretty much out of my grasp, having only a Canon IXUS and my phone before now (an SLR too, but that’s expensive to use, and currently in another city).

There are plenty more that I’ve taken – I will be posting those too! πŸ™‚ Comments and any ideas for improvement are welcome and needed.
